Cath Powell: Associate Diploma of Arts (Welfare Studies), Bachelor of Social Work, Master of Social Work

Cath has fifteen years experience working in the youth justice system, both custodial and community, as a practitioner and manager.  She has extensive experience in crime prevention, offender rehabilitation, sex offender, and behaviour change group work programs.  In 2003 Cath was the recipient of the Highly Commended Department of Human Services, Robin Clark Memorial Award 2003 for ‘Outstanding service in making a difference with children, young people and families.’ She is well regarded within the Victorian Department of Human Services for her expertise in working with difficult to engage young people. Additionally, Cath has provided professional development programs relevant to direct service provision in working with adolescent offenders and young people displaying problematic behaviours. Her professional development workshops have included: Case Note Recording in a Forensic Setting; Evidence Based Practice: An Introduction to Working with Adolescent Forensic Clients; Advanced Case Practice with Adolescent Forensic Clients; Aggression Replacement Training (ART);Agents of Change Training (ACT); An Introduction to Working with Adolescent Sex Offenders; Anger Management Tools Training for Educators. In her private practice- Forensic Assessment Intervention Service (FAIS), Cath works with young people either in, or at risk of entering, the criminal justice system as well as their families and support services, adolescents and adults under the Medicare Focused Psychological Strategies, Mental Health Care Plans and as a Provider under the Centrelink Job Capacity Account providing short term support to individuals on entry back into the workforce.
